In Brief

BACKGROUND:
Accomplished sailor, traveler, researcher, and book author, and can speak Spanish conversationally. Researched and presented reports on international trade, including several pre-NAFTA reports, for the US. International Trade Commission while working in Washington DC (1983-1999). Served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ecuador (1999-2000). Has an in-depth geographical and historical perspective and has traveled extensively throughout the United States, certain parts of Canada, Mexico, Central America, and South America.

PUBLICATIONS: Six Regional Guidebooks: Potomac River (on its second edition), Florida's Gulf Coast, the Ohio River, the Illinois River System, and Honduras.

TEACHING/PRESENTATIONS: Senior Instructor at the US Army Engineer School (1978-79); Sailing Instructor at the Annapolis Sailing School (1987-1992); Regular Boat Show Presenter (2001-present).

Rick has titles with a major national publisher as well as some self-published books. He is familiar with many aspects of book publishing, including book printing. Rick is often complimented on his skills simplifying and presenting convoluted information using spatial layouts (e.g., maps, charts, sketches, tables, figures, etc.). He is his own photographer for his picture-laden guidebooks. Rick holds a US Coast Guard Captain’s license.
